Stitched
Artist Statement
As an artist, I am often plagued by self-doubt and a feeling of inadequacy in my understanding of myself and the world around me. However, through my creative process, I have found a way to give expression to these thoughts and musings.
Initially, I turned to sewing as a way to satisfy my need to create. It wasn't until later that I realized it was the act of stitching itself that fascinated me, rather than the end result. As I delved deeper into the creative process, I became increasingly aware of the elusive nature of thoughts and the difficulty in finding meaning within them.
Despite this, I continued to create, using the simple process of repetition to build up my work, even when the purpose behind it remained unclear. Through persistence, I discovered that the act of creating allowed me to reimagine my thoughts and gain a deeper understanding of myself and my work.
My artistic focus centres on the repetitive act of stitching, which serves as a conduit for exploring the complexities of the creative process and the human experience. Through my work, I seek to capture the tension between the desire for meaning and the acceptance of the elusive nature of thoughts.
Ultimately, my goal as an artist is to create work that not only reflects my own thoughts and experiences but also invites the viewer to engage with their own elusive musings.
